Federal Judge Pauses Cuts to U.S. Global Media

He pointed out the lack of a statement of reasoning to set precedents in the Supreme Court’s emergency orders.

District Judge Royce Lamberth has blocked President Trump’s administration from laying off over 500 employees from the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which runs the Voice of America radio network. Judge Lamberth also said that the president’s administration has not complied with his orders to preserve the broadcaster’s operations.

The judge stated that the “defendants lack a plan to comply with the preliminary injunction, and instead have been running out the clock on the fiscal year while remaining in violation of even the most meager reading of USAGM and Voice of America’s statutory obligations.”

Regarding the Supreme Court’s emergency stays of judicial blocks on the president’s actions, Judge Lamberth stated, “Any appellate decision cannot provide precedential guidance without a statement of reasons from which the [district] Court can analogize to the present facts.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal judges as they assess constitutional authority and congressional mandates.
  • For the president and officials in his administration as they seek to reduce government overhead and cut federal spending.
